THEBOA is Almost Packed for Knoxville!

We leave for our three Days of Beauty on Wednesday.  All of us are so excited, as are the residents and staff members at Brakebill, Manor House and Homewood. Janie and * feel a little like Santa's elves, which is making this holiday season even merrier.  We're still gathering the goodies and door prizes, but we can hardly contain ourselves.  There's something magical about these events.  We have some of the most committed and genuine affiliates who also have beautiful products.  We have great support and lots of love around us--which only means more to share. Here's what's on the agenda.

  • Judy Gardner, The Silk Purse
  • Jane Knight, Signature Homestyles
  • Fran's Microfiber
  • Zayn Bowling, Creative Memories
  • Victoria MacDonald, Univera
  • Nancy Abramson, NAJ Designs
  • Elite Jewelry Designs
  • Mary Kay Cosmetics
  • Jacqueline Wales, Fearless Fifties & When the Crow Sings

  • Cherie DeVivo, The Bag Queen
  • Jane Pitte, Shear Minerals

If you're missing out on these three events, we'll be hosting more throughout 2008.  Our new website has launched and will continue to keep you updated on the whens and wheres.  You can also ask us to come to you!  We're ready to roll and haves lots of cool products (and hugs) for you!

Have a spectacular day!  See you soon!

Ladies Who Launch At The New York Times Business Summit

Yesterday, I attended the New York Times Small Business Summit.  It was great!  the theme of the summit was "Gather, Network, Grow".  I met a lot of wonderful entrepreneurs, and got useful information. Ladies Who Launch had a table in the Local Resource Cafe, and Beth Schoenfeldt hosted a session on marketing. Other LWL members who attended were Sharon Gill, Margaret Prusan and Karla Lightfoot.

The morning session was moderated by Jane Applegate, author and founder of The Applegate Group. The panelists were a diverse quartet on entrepreneurs who generously shared their stories. Wally Ganzi of the Palm Restaurants, Jason Ackerman of Fresh Direct, Suhwei Lin of Manthattan Portage, and Jason Goldberg of Jobster. Then I attended the speed networking session which was a frenetic exercise in making contacts. It helps to have a one-minute pitch down, since there was only five minutes to introduce yourself to three people.  I ran out of business cards, but meet loads of interesting people. Tom Scott presented the lunch keynote speech. He talked about how he started Nantucket Nectars and PlumTV.  He was great as talked about luck, fear and failure was essential for his success. [Crazy!]

THEBOA Day of Beauty Event - 10/19/07 on Long Island

On 10/19/07, THEBOA will hold its first Day of Beauty event at Grandell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Long Island. This is an event of abundance, activity, aspiration and alternatives. We will give residents, caregivers and family members an opportunity to sample products and services of local affiliates in apparel, hair care, skin care, and other self-care industries (including authors, coaches,
yoga/Pilates/fitness instructors). Naturally, we want to involve as many Ladies Who Launch as possible.

There are several ways to be involved. For example, you can:
* attend the event as a vendor in exchange for commission on any sales
* consign product to us in exchange for commission on the sales
* donate approximately 30 samples or promotional items for the goody bags
* donate a door prize
The possibilities are virtually endless! Just let us know by Monday 09/17/07, so we have plenty of time to arrange for delivery of the goods.

(Special thanks to Nancy Mindes, Tiscia Caruso and Cyndie Burkhardt for committing early and participating in this fabulous event!)

Thanks! Have a beautiful day!
Nance :)

NYC Live Event - One Attendee's Experience

, by FashionMista

Todolist

Is it too late to blog about an event that happened a week and a half ago? Yes, I'm going to vote as usual and try not to do much damage in the booth, but am the most excited about the potential ban in NYC on trans fat in restaurants. Don't think that's an issue for the ballet, but I'm a fan of the ban. Hopefully the next one will be nutrasweet.  Anyway, my to-do list was so long the weekend after the event, that my blogging fell off of it! I was to cross everything off in one Saturday, and got about 7 of the maybe 22 things, so everything else went on hold.

So now that it's Halloween, I've reinstated the Incubator's mantra of "Do one nice thing for yourself each day" and indulged in some mini milky ways and turned on Gilmore Girls, (which was a reapeat of maybe the first show of this season, but I've so far missed them all so it's fine).

It was like Christmas morning when I got home after the LIVE Event. I had a bag full of goodies (free pair of Naturalizer shoes, Jonathan hair shine, a face peel from md skincare, and gobs more of little deals at womens' businesses), new business cards to file and websites to visit, and new dates to put into my Google calendar (LOVing the Google calendar).

Not only did we get goody bags and hear from the varied experiences of valuable speakers, but my brain was overflowing with new ideas and insights from other women. I had the pleasure of picking Wedding Bee's brain on blog advertising and generating traffic (write, write, write), to Glam or not to Glam with Chicks and Giggles, the new world and future website for Reel Invitations (dvd wedding invitations), and more Katie James strategic alliances with The Matchstick Group.

In between the fabulous speakers, we could indulge in chair massages compliments of State Farm, and go shopping in the Ladies Who Launch marketplace downstairs, where everyone had the cutest displays and polished designs. I held off from participating as a vendor, but now that I've done my first market down in Soho, I'm ready for another challenge. Here are a couple highlights from the LIVE event marketplace:

Ichiche
Definitely unique, beautiful designs of jewelry. Put one of these necklaces on and you're transported to another culture.

Bleach Letterpress Designs by Smith Banfield
I'm a sucker for letterpress cards, and Smith's are gorgeous. Even the card she gave away with her information on it was beautiful.

One of the fun parts about Ladies Who Launch is that there are these surprise women who are a part of it. As I was talking to my dyn-o-mite PR friend at Red Branch PR, I spotted a high school classmate who I hadn't seen in 5 years! I dashed over to her and we chatted and chatted. I can't wait for the next event, and I think there is an Incubator event coming up, oh, and I've got an acupuncture session tomorrow with Acupuncture Remedies...ta ta for now!

PS: just ordered my free Naturalizer shoes...what did everyone else get?

Breast Cancer Fund Lavender Retreat

Ladies Who Launch creator of Aromas for Living (www.aromasforliving.com), Vicky Rathje, hosted the first annual Breast Cancer Fund Lavender Retreat at her incredible lavender farm in Ventura, California.  The Breast Cancer Fund is dedicated to finding the causes of breast cancer and publishes an annual publication on the relationship between toxins in the environment and breast cancer.  100% of the proceeds were dedicated to the Breast Cancer Fund and we raised 5k on Saturday.  It felt amazing!
The day was most enjoyable and so well organized.  There were about 60 of us present at the event.  The rolling hills of Ventura seemed like a tropical Tuscany. The food and beverage donations were phenomenal.  On behalf of ReSolution Spa (www.resolutionspa.com)I made lavender muffins for breakfast, Edible Arrangements donated the fruit and a fabulous organic lunch was catered by Mae Low and Michael X.
We were divided into five groups- Lemon, Lavender, Chamomile, Sage, and Orange.  Throughout the day each group participated in the following five workshops: Essential Oil Mixing- Healing Energy Massage, Meditation, Tour of Lavender Fields (led by the charming husband), Crystal Bowls, Yoga, and Chanting.  The energy throughout the day was truly special.  It really felt like we were far, far away from the city.  I left feeling completely renewed and refreshed.  Last night I planted a lavender sprig that I cut from the lavender field tour- I can't wait to return for harvest next year!
